home-style southern cooking with superb taste and portions that they give for the price. the owner, Val often come out time-to-time to greet the costumer as well, very kind and homey establishment!!
We rode up there from Roanoke picked up a few of our friends along the way I had the meatloaf best I ever had. The environment, the setting the service. It was all great if you’re looking for a place to have good home-cooked food, Val’s Comfort Kitchen is the place. We will make this trip again.
This is like eating at your family's house on Sunday after church (not saying it is religious, it is just good southern hospitality). The fried catfish was amazing, one of the best pieces of catfish I have had in a long time. We will definitely be returning!! Such a welcoming atmosphere.
okay, so how has all of Lynchburg not found out about this place yet? This is good home cooking here. Good food at a good price, and you can tell that time and effort was put into preparing it. Everything was excellent, from the meatloaf to the catfish, all prepared with love. the sides were delicious, I had the collard greens, and the cabbage, my wife and son had macaroni and cheese, and potato salad. Everything's on point. Do yourself a favor check this place out.
What a wonderful experience, the food was all cooked by Ms. Val herself! I normally hate southern / American food but she has converted my taste buds! The fried catfish, Mac and cheese, corn pudding, and banana pudding are all FANTASTIC! I love that Val herself came out and talked to all of her customers multiple times during our visit, goes to show how much love she puts into her establishment. The wait staff were very attentive and amazing as well. This is a local business providing excellent quality food and I hope that they thrive and stay in town! We will be back!!!
The name says it all- lots of comfort in this home cooked food! I live near Roanoke and was visiting Lynchburg with my sister for the day. Sometimes you just crave the taste of what your mom and grandmother used to make, Val's delicious, "country" food offerings really took care of that craving. The baked chicken was exceptional with lots of flavor but not greasy. My sister and I enjoyed everything we ordered. Food was served hot, fresh and by a friendly waitress. The atmosphere is nice and quiet, a good place to focus on conversation. Oh, and what a great impression it made when the owner, Val came to our table to see if we were pleased with the food. I will definitely find more excuses to drive to Lynchburg so I can enjoy such quality food and service again.
On a recent trip, we chose Val's based off of reviews and the menu options. We were greeted by Ashley who directed us to our booth then took our drink orders. We opted for the whiting choosing mashed potatoes, cabbage, and collard greens as our sides. The food was amazing! We both noted we had not had fish cooked that well since our childhood when our grandfather cooked for us. The sides were seasoned perfectly and complemented the fish. It was a delicious meal made better by great service. If you want a meal that makes you think of one home-cooked, you must try Val's!
This was such a great little place! Best meatloaf I’ve ever had, hands down!! While I was there Val came out and greeted everyone. Many people she knew by name. You can tell she really cares about her food and her customers. Everyone needs to go - but students who are missing a home-cooked meal REALLY need to go. Not only will the food be home cooked but the atmosphere feels like family!
